A Great Read

As a child I was no great reader!  These days if I’m in the car at the right time and I’m feeling a bit cultured I’ll tune into Radio 4’s ‘A Good Read’ programme.  It’s always entertaining even though you could safely bet your house on the fact I would never have read any of the books they are reviewing.  It makes me feel more intelligent for just listening though!!

To this day I can count on the fingers of one hand the books that have gripped me to the point that I’ve read them within days of opening the first of the pages.  Two stand out as real page turners, one was Charlie and Chocolate Factory and the other was The Da Vinci Code.

Becoming a better, more disciplined reader is a skill I am working on though and in the mean time I love to listen to audio books – which is how I much prefer to learn and I get through a lot of them!

Since Christmas last year there’s one audio book that I’ve listened to four times.  That’s a first for me!  It’s beautifully written and wonderfully narrated by its author – Oprah Winfrey.
‘What I Know For Sure’ is a collection of the articles penned by Oprah for her monthly column in ‘O’ Magazine over a period of 14 years.

The content is organised by themes including Joy, Resilience, Connection, Gratitude, and Power.  Each offering is simple, dripping in inspiration, insight and wisdom.

It’s a very personal book and the anecdotes may well surprise a reader with preconceptions about the lifestyle of this celebrity billionaire and more importantly the twists and turns en route to her ultimate extraordinary success.

I can’t recommend the book highly enough.

If you want a better understanding of one of the world’s great achievers then you should read this book.  Alternatively, if you want some insight into a celebrity lifestyle then you should read the book. Or, if you want to reboot your own positivity and self-belief – you know what you should do!

Whether you read it or listen to it, this book is an absolute gem and that’s ‘what I know for sure’!
